2Flyers sweep Challengers with 2-0 victory,auto
Game 2 of the best-of-three semi-final series between the Challengers and the Therwil Flyers was a pitcher's duel between Karen Heimgartner and Jennifer Merrill.Heimgartner gave up two runs and six hits with one walk while striking out five, but it wasn't enough to force a Game 3. Merrill tossed a no-hitter with three walks and twelve strikeouts to lead the Flyers to the final series.
Former Challengers player Nancy Plamondon opened the score in the bottom of the first inning, as she scored from first base on an error by the Challengers defense, after leading off with a single. And that was all Merrill and her defense needed.
The Flyers added an insurance run in the third, as Merrill delivered a RBI-double, driving in Jessica Kijak to make it 2-0.
Despite the worst record in team's history (6-16) the Challengers finish in fourth place, while the Flyers will face the defending Swiss champion Luzern Eagles for a best-of-five final series.
