Devils held on for a 5-2 win over the C's

The Softball-Team is still tied for fourth place after a split with the Wil Devils on Saturday, August 31 at the Klopstockwiese, what keeps the Challengers in the race for the last playoff spot.

The Devils built a 4-0 lead in Game 1 and never looked back, as they posted a 5-2 victory.

The Devils broke a scoreless tie in the top of the second inning, as Brittany Robinson grounded into a fielder's choice with runners on second and third base, that enabled Nadja Niffeler to cross the plate.

After adding a run in the third frame the Devils opened the gap to four runs in the fifth thanks to some misplays in the C's defense. A dropped fly ball enabled Irene Bühler to score from second base and Chantal Breitenmoser scored on a passed ball.

The C's cut the deficit to two runs in the sixth. After Leandra Simitovic and Sandrine Montandon reached base to lead off the inning, Karen Heimgartner drove in Simitovic followed by a RBI-double from Simona Cellar. Heimgartner tried to score as well, but was beaten by a great throw from the Devils left fielder.

The Devils scored an insurance run in the seventh and held on for a 5-2 win.

Leandra Simitovic allowed five runs - two earned - and six hits with six walks and two strikeouts, while Irene Bühler gave up two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four for the win.
