12Devils outlast Challengers 20-12
In a poor pitched game on both sides, the Devils prevailed 20-12 in Game 1 of Sunday's game against the Challengers. The two pitching staffs combined for 19 walks given up and four hit-by-pitches, while the Devils also stole a ridiculous 24 bases.
Of the 22 batters that reached safely at first base, 17 went on to steal second base.
And the Devils were also helped by a non-existent Challenger defense that committed 10 errors.
At the end of the day, only half of the Devils' runs were earned.
Although the Challengers led 10-5 after four innings, they couldn't hold on to the lead, giving up 10 runs in the fifth inning. Six of those runs were unearned as the defense committed three errors.
Nick Lehmann (1-2) ended up with the loss, allowing 17 runs - eight of them unearned - on 13 hits and six walks, while also striking out nine.
Claudio Studerus picked up the win by tossing 5 2-3 innings in relief in which he gave up only one earned run on six hits and two walks.
