6Challengers come up with big 16-6 win in Game 2
The Challengers profited from eight misplays in the field and 12 walks by the Zurich Lions, winning 16-6 in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader. After trailing 3-0 after two innings, and 4-3 after four, the Challengers sent 10 batters to the plate in the fifth, scoring seven times for a 10-4 lead to blow the game wide open. After getting already two outs on a 6-4-3 double play, the Lions' defense committed three errors to prolong the inning and sending starter Markus Streicher to the showers.
Reliever Tim Merkel didn't manage to record an out, although striking out Wascar Garcia. But he eventually reached on catcher Eugster's dropped third strike and a passed ball.
Eugster himself managed to finally record the third out on a caught steal off Nick Lehmann.
But the damage was done, and the Challengers never looked back.
Reliever Garcia pitched four innings in relief of starter Lehmann, picking up his second consecutive win, allowing only two runs - one of them unearned - on five hits and one base-on-balls, while also striking out five.
The Challengers ended the game via the 10-run mercy rule by scoring five more times in the top of the eighth. Lehmann and Daniele Carrozza had an RBI-single apiece, and the rest of the runs scored via two errors and a bases-loaded walk to Alex Keating.
