1Challengers win Finals opener
The Challengers played an errorless game and won the first game of the Best-Of-3 Finals Series 5-1 against the Zurich Barracudas.Prior to this game, the Barracudas won three out of four regular season encounters. None of those four games was decided by more than two runs.
But Thomas Burger (2-0) pitched six fine innings, earning his second win of the season. He allowed only one run on four hits, two walks and four hit batters, while also striking out nine.
Roger Brunner came in to pitch the final inning, giving up two more hits before retiring Eichmann for the final out.
Thomas Burger also had a game-high two hits off Spring, raising his batting average to .417.
The Challengers now just need one more win to wrap up the 1.Liga-Championship for the first time since 1992.
Game notes
Nick Lehmann went 1-for-3, but failed to collect an RBI for the first time this season. He already has 31 this season, trailing Thomas Blank's single-season record of 33 by just two.
