2Burger fans 20, outpitches Eagles
After loosing the first game against the second team of the Reussbühl Eagles, the Challengers finished on top in the second matchup. As on May 21, it was all a pitcher's affair: Haltmeier recorded 13 strikeouts for the Eagles and tossed a three-hitter, but that was not enough against thomas Burger who wrote challengers' history.
Burger allowed only 5 baserunners in 7 innings, gave up 2 hits, 1 walk and sent 18 batters straight back to the dugout, while one was thrown out at first and another reached after a third-strike passed ball. Thus, Burger crushed the all-time game-high mark of 17 for a challengers team, set by Patrick Zöllig in a 7-3 win over truck star in 1999.
The only earned run of the game came in the third inning, when Oliver Marty knocked in Manuel Schretzmann to open the score.
The Challengers scored three more times on several errors by the Eagles' defense, while a pair of catcher's mistakes led to the only two runs for the Eagles in the 7th.
