6Challengers' rally invain as Devils win 6-5 in final at-bat
The Challengers rallied from a 5-3 deficit in the final inning only to see the Wil Devils score the winning run with their final at-bat in the bottom half of the seventh inning.Willy Schaub started and lasted five solid innings, giving up only two earned runs. |
But his offense didn't provide him with a lot of support, scoring only two runs during his tenure on the mound.
After putting together six doubles in Game 1, only Chris Hardy and Adrian Kämpfer">Adrian Kämpfer were able to go for two bases this time.
Rookie Thomas Burger collected his first career triple as he laid down a perfect line drive into the right field corner.
He eventually scored on Manuel Schretzmann's fielder's choice in the third inning to tie the game.
But the Devils got two runs back in the fifth inning.
The Challengers managed to tie the game once again in the top of the seventh as Thomas Blank hit a sac fly that scored Schretzmann, and Kämpfer later profited from a defensive blunder by Thomas Beier to score the tying run.
But two costly errors in the bottom half of the inning cost the Challengers the game.
