11Challengers score consistantly to defeat Subs 23-12
In the second game of the day the Challengers didn't have one scoreless inning and always kept the lead on the way to a clear victory.Three nearly consecutive Romanshorn errors in the first inning handed the Challengers an early lead. Afterwards a highly effective Challengers offense led by Orlando Balbuena (5-for-6 with two doubles and a homerun) combined for a total of 22 hits. Five players went for extra-base hits, Oliver Labhart and Chris Hardy - for the fifth time this season - like Balbuena even for homeruns. But the lineup also showed depth, as every player got at least one RBI.
Against starter Willy Schaub the Romanshorn Submarines didn't have much to answer. Although again not at his best, Schaub was able to control the opponent through all seven innings and picked up his third complete game of the season. Only in the third Schaub got a bit in trouble, when the Sub's scored two unearned runs after back-to-back homers by Schiavo and Martin to win the inning 4-2. And in the last inning Schaub gave up another four runs - all of them unearned - on throwing errors by himself and second baseman Thomas Blank.
Game notes
Roger Burger's sacrifice fly in the fifth inning gives him a team-leading 3 on the season.
