Deck, Challengers shut out Moose Junction 18-0

Claudio Deck threw a gem in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader as he shut out the Olten Moose Junction in an 18-0 rout.

Claudio Deck threw his first shutout of his career, allowing only one hit and one base-on-balls.
Claudio Deck retired the first four batters he faced before Beat Senti's single broke up his perfect game in the second inning. Two fielding errors and a base-on-balls in the seventh inning led to the only other three baserunners the Moose Junction had in the entire game.

En route to his second win of the season, Claudio Deck also struck out six batters while allowing one hit and walking one.

At one point, he retired nine batters in a row.

His offense also provided him with a big cushion from the start on. The Challengers scored four times in the first inning on a throwing error by catcher Ruoss and Thomas Blank's three-run homer, his second of the year.

Manuel Schretzmann hits a bases-loaded triple in the fourth inning.
The Challengers went on to score three more runs in the next inning as Oliver Deck led off with a triple - the first triple by a Challenger since May 13, 2001. Rookie Chris Hardy plated him with an RBI-double, and Orlando Balbuena had a two-run double.

In the fourth inning, the Challengers put three men on with two outs before Manuel Schretzmann hit his first career triple to clear the bases.

It was the first time ever that a Challenger team has ever hit two triples in one game. And all that on the cozy little Heerenschürli.

By scoring five more runs in the fifth inning, the Challengers won the game easily 18-0 to improve their record to 4-4.
