Unicorns stomp Challengers 32-10

The Hünenberg Unicorns used two huge innings to finish off a helpless Challenger team in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader.

Thomas Blank
The Unicorns scored 13 times in the third and 11 times in the sixth innings to end the game after six innings due to the double-mercy rule after five innings.

But thanks to seven crucial errors by the Challenger defense, half of the runs were unearned, but still would have been enough to beat a weak offensive Challenger output.

The Challengers' five doubles and Thomas Blank's solo homer in the first inning was way too little to match the Unicorns' run-production. They put together 20 hits, eight of them doubles and four homers, compared to just 12 by the Challengers.

Rookie starter Beni Blank took the loss, pitching four innings and giving up 19 runs - 14(!) of them unearned - on 11 hits and four walks, and also striking out four.

Reliever Bryan Shemley had his first appearance this season on the mound, and lasted only 1 1-3 innings, leaving the game after giving up eight runs - one of them unearned - on five hits and two walks, striking out none.

Patrick Bosshard pitched the final two outs, but not before giving up five more runs - one of them unearned - on four hits and two walks. Both of his outs were strikeouts.

Bosshard also showed the best offensive performance of his team, going 2-for-3, including a double and a walk, scoring twice and also collecting three RBI's.
