The NLB-team overcame an early 3-0 deficit to edge the Spreitenbach Red Barons 7-6 in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader at the Heerenschürli.Oli Christen> |
Oli Christen got his first win of the season by tossing five innings, giving up four earned runs on three hits. |
But Christen (1-0) came back and shut the Barons down over the next two innings, while his offense provided him with a 4-3 lead.
Thomas Blank, rookie Cameron Minns and Christian Bülte had run-scoring groundouts in the first and second innings and Urs Blickenstorfer added an RBI-single in the third inning to put his team up 4-3.
But the Barons scored twice in the top of the fifth on shortstop Zapata's two-run single to retake the lead.
Minns led off the bottom half of the fourth with his first hit in the NLB, a double to left field. Bülte then reached on an error by first baseman Pennisi that scored Minns. Harry Bregy and Blank each added an RBI-single, and the Challengers again went ahead 7-5.
Oliver Labhart relieved Christen to start the sixth inning and he allowed only one more run in the seventh to collect his first save of the season. He struck out four in two innings and allowed only one run on two hits and one base-on-balls.
