Challengers 9, Devils 7

Harry Bregy and the NLB-team hung on for a 9-7 win in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Wil Devils.

This time, the Challengers went ahead on Thomas Blank's solo shot in the first with two outs, but the Devils wasted no time as they scored three runs of their own on three hits in the bottom of the first inning.

Thomas Blank's two solo homers were the difference in a hard-fought 9-7 win over the Devils.
The Challengers then took a 4-3 lead in the top of the second inning on Harry Bregy's two-run single and an error by first baseman Beier.

It got even better as Blank led off the third with yet another homer and Urs Blickenstorfer scored on an error by third baseman Studerus for a 6-3 lead.

After the first inning, starter Bregy (1-0) shut out the Devils over the next five innings and the Challengers were leading 7-3 going into the seventh and final inning.

Stefan Eisenring led off with a single and Benny Räber scored him with his second career NLB-homer to put the Challengers up 9-3.

In the bottom of the seventh, Harry Bregy managed to retire the first two batters but then run into trouble after hitting Beier with a pitch, walking Studerus and then hitting another batter. Beier promptly scored on Blank's error, who couldn't handle a throw from Bregy on an attempted pickoff off Beier.

Then Rüegg put Harry's next pitch over the fence to bring the Devils within two runs.

But they didn't stop there. Isenring reached on a single and second baeman Stefan Eisenring overthrew Räber at first base to put runners on third and second with two outs.

Up next for the Devils was Terenczy, who already collected five hits in the two games. He worked the count to 3-1 and then manager Johnny Müller made the pivotal move: He brought in Räber who got the win in the first game by going the distance, and ordered an intentional pass to load the bases.

That move paid off big times as Maganto, the 10th batter of the inning, hit a comebacker to the mound where Räber picked up the ball and threw to catcher Tobias Siegrist for the force at home.
