Rookie Willy Schaub had his second multi-hit game of the season and raised his batting average above .300 for the first time this season. |
The Barracudas again profited from the lousy Challenger defense as five of their 14 runs were unearned. Coma hit a three-run homer, Van Eite had a two-run shot and Berchthold added a solo four-bagger for the Barracudas.
For the Challengers, Patrick Bosshard hit a two-run homer in the first inning and rookie Willy Schaub hit the only other extra-base hit, a double in the second inning. Schaub finished the game with two hits in three at-bats to raise his batting average to .304.
Harry Bregy (2-6), losing pitcher in game 1, started once again and lasted 5 2-3 innings this time. He allowed 12 runs, nine of them earned on eight hits and six walks, striking out six. Bosshard was the reliever again and he allowed no earned run through the last 1 1-3 innings. He lowered his earned run average to 1.54 in the process.
The Challengers are now 3-8 and not far away from being relegated to the 1.Liga. If they lose one game next weekend against either the front-running Rainbows or Lions, the NLB could be history for the second team.
