Rookies Eisenring, Labhart and Siegrist showed a superb defensive and offensvie effort on sunday against the Rainbows. |
Mark Imhof, former member of the Coconuts, pitched the last three innings for the Rainbows and allowed three more runs and just one hit.
Philippe Rérat relieved Bregy in the eight, but the Rainbows scored six more runs. That's when Rérat was angered by one of the Rainbow players and hit him in the head. He was thrown out of the game and will be fined later by the federation.
So Willy Schaub had to take the mound and he allowed one hit and two unearned runs, before being replaced by rookie Oliver Labhart who retired the only batter he faced.
The Challengers got one more chance to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Leadoff batter Eric Trautmann was hit by a pitch and the next two batters were walked to load the bases with no outs. Imhof issued a walk to Christian Bülte to force in Trautmann and Labhart hit a double to score two more runs.
Rookie Labhart, who played the bigger part of the game at first base, showed that he's up to the task to play at a higher level. He went 2-for-4, including a double, and collected three RBI's. Stefan Eisenring and Tobias Siegrist also showed some good defensive performances as the two young rookies split the game behind the plate catching.
