2Barracudas trash Challengers 14-2
The first of two consecutive night games between the Challengers and the Zurich Barracudas was a clear affair in the end as they won 14-2.The Barracudas led the hit column with 10-7, but the Challengers' pitching staff conceded 5 walks and 5 hit-by-pitches, and the infield also committed three costly errors that led to six unearned runs.
The opening innings were balanced as the Barracudas scored twice in the third inning on a single, an error and a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead, which got cut in half on Bryan Shemley's RBI-double in the fourth.
But then came the fifth inning. The visitors turned four hits and an error into 10 runs, whilst only the third Challenger pitcher of the inning managed to stop the bleeding.
An RBI-single by substitute Thomas Blank in the bottom half of the inning was the only answer the Challengers could give.
Before the game, the Challengers paid tribute to some of the members of the 1986 team which won the third of the franchise's eight Championships.
Game notes
Siegrist conceded his 400th run in the NLA when Josh Crouse crossed the plate in the 5th inning. He also tied Enrico Zingg for 7th place on the Challengers all-time list for wild pitches with 45.
