2Challengers dominate Devils in seven innings
The Challengers evened their record at 2-2 by overpowering the Wil Devils 17-2 in Game 2 of Sunday’s doubleheader.Wil Figueroa gave his Challengers debut on the mound, pitching five innings of three-hit ball, giving up only two runs, and also striking out five for his first win of the season.
Jesus Martinez led all batters by hitting two homeruns, his firsts since May 16, 2015, also against the Wil Devils.
Carlos Nepomuceno add three hits and scored four times, and four other Challengers contributed to the 19 total hits.
While the Devils managed to tie the game in the bottom of the first at 1-1, the Challengers slowly pulled away and already led 10-2 after five innings against Bryce Watterud and reliever Diego Gladig.
They added four runs in the sixth on Tobias Siegrist’s two-run single and Robert Sedin’s two-run double.
Three more runs in the seventh inning came off Nepomuceno’s RBI-double and Martinez’ two-run blast that sealed the Challengers’ 17-2 victory.
Game notes
Siegrist collected his 400th RBI in the NLA with a two-run single in the sixth inning.
