4Flyers rally for 4-3 win in Semis opener
In Game 1 of the Playoff Semifinals, the Challengers blew a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the ninth due to two errors, and then lost it in the 10th on a wild pitch and a walk-off single by Michael Stowers. The Challengers managed to build up a 3-0 lead after just four innings thanks to an RBI-single by Saentis Zeller, an error by center fielder Adrian Kaufmann, and a solo homer by Juan Guzman to lead off the fourth inning.
In the meantime, Tobias Siegrist kept the Flyers’ bats silent and allowed just four base-runners to reach as far as second base.
In the seventh, the Flyers got on the board on an RBI-single by Devon Barker, but Siegrist cruised into the ninth inning with an 1-2-3 eighth.
But Sven Leemann reached due to a fielding error by center fielder Gabriel Holguin, after which Siegrist managed to retire the next two batters. But Javi Rodriguez and Barker came through with back-to-back singles to put two runners on, and an error by shortstop James Sanders enabled pinch-runner Hide Oshima to score the tying run.
Taka Oshima pitched a 10-inning complete-game, allowing three runs – two of them unearned – on seven hits and five walks, while also striking out seven.
