3Challengers edge Cardinals 5-3 in regular season finale
A muffed throw by first baseman Moritz Kocher broke a 3-3 tie, and enabled the Challengers’ 5-3 win in the regular season finale against the Bern Cardinals.The win also secured fourth place in the standings for the Challengers, giving them home-field advantage for the 1st round in the Playoffs against the Lucerne Eagles.
Saentis Zeller and Jesus Martinez each had three hits, Tobias Siegrist hit his second homer of the season, and Robert Sedin picked up his first save of the season.
Siegrist also picked up the win by pitching three shutout innings in relief, giving him a career-high seven on the season.
Game notes
Carlos Nepomuceno scored the franchise’ 8.000th run as he crossed the plate for the Challengers’ third run in the fourth inning. …Sedin’s save was his first since August 9, 2015.
