9Challengers edge Flyers 9-7
The Challengers surprised the league-leading Therwil Flyers with a 9-7 comeback victory in Game 1 of Saturday’s doubleheader at the Heerenschürli.Trailing 7-1 after 4½ innings, the Challengers nibbled away the Flyers’ lead in the fifth and sixth innings before tying it up at 7-7 thanks to five singles off reliever Stefan Koller. Jesus Martinez delivered the knockout blow in the eighth inning by ripping a two-out two-run double to the right center gap for the final score of 9-7.
Tobias Siegrist delivered his third consecutive complete game win, allowing seven runs - two of them unearned - on 12 hits and two walks, while also striking out six.
Siegrist earned his league-leading sixth win in the process, tying his career-high from 2009 and 2010.
Game notes
Martinez’ RBI in the eighth inning was his 150th of his career. …Siegrist’s four complete games are the most since setting his career-high with five in 2010.
