1Challengers edge Flyers 3-1
After four straight defeats versus the Therwil, Flyers dating back to last year's Playoff Semifinals, the Challengers beat Switzerland's premier pitcher Jack Shannon 3-1 behind James Sanders' eight sharp innings and a little timely offense.Sanders helped his own cause by plating the Challengers' first run on an RBI-single in the second inning. The Challengers then added one more valuable run in the top of the fifth on Rob Sedin's run-scoring ground out to third, and that proved to be enough for Sanders.
He faced the minimum of nine batters through the first three innings, and was aided by two double plays in the first and fourth innings. After another 1-2-3 fifth inning, the Flyers finally managed to get on the board thanks to Taka Oshima's RBI-single with two outs in the sixth.
Shannon followed with a walk, but Sanders went on to retire the next seven batters in order. Sedin took over to pitch the ninth and he managed to retire Taka Oshima on a ground out to second and Shannon to strike out looking.
Daniel Eichenberger's single with two outs in brought the tying run to the plate, but Sedin induced Stefan Koller to hit into a game-ending ground out to second.
Game notes
Challengers batters struck out 14 times, the most since getting struck out 14 times on September 9, 2012 versus the Bern Cardinals' Tobias Imboden and Ryan Byrne in an 11-8 win.
