4Challengers crash Barracudas party with 8-4 win
On the day the Zurich Barracudas celebrated their 30th year of existence, the Challengers upended their crosstown rivals with an 8-4 victory in Saturday afternoon's matchup at the Heerenschürli.The Challengers broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh inning by scoring three runs off reliever Daniel Levine, making a winner of starter Tobias Siegrist.
Robert Sedin led his team with a 4-for-6 performance, James Sanders added three hits, and substitute Gabriel Holguin went 2-for-2.
The Barracudas opened the scoring in the first inning on an RBI-single by Josh Crouse and a two-run single by Georgiev Strahil.
The Challengers crawled back as they chipped away by scoring in the second, third and sixth innings off started Andi Rüesch to knot the score at 3-3 after six.
Francisco Colindres' RBI-single and a bases-loaded walk to Clayton Carson in the sixth inning gave the Challengers a 6-3 lead which they never relinquished.
After that shaky first inning, Siegrist (3-2) dominated the Barracudas. He allowed only seven baserunners from the second through the seventh inning, and only two of them reached as far as third base.
He would go on to complete his 13th game in his NLA career, allowing four runs on 10 hits and five walks, while also striking out seven.
Game notes
Bryan Shemley scored his 200th run in the NLA as he crossed the plate in the 7th inning, and also passed Nick Lehmann for 9th place on the Challengers' all-time list.
