3Sedin wins pitcher's duel against Flyers' Guarrera
Robert Sedin finally ended up as the winner in a quality start, edging his counterpart Gavin Guarrera in a 3-2 in Game 2 of Sunday’s doubleheader against the Therwil Flyers.Sedin got credit for his first win of the season by going 8+ innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and four walks, while also striking out four in his best game so far this season.
The Flyers committed too many errors which led to two unearned runs, enabling the Challengers to sneak by their rivals, and splitting the season series 2-2.
The Challengers got off to a good start thanks to a 1st-&-3rd rundown which got Eidrys Reyes hung up between first and second, but enabled Ryan Byrne to score during the rundown.
In the third inning, catcher Sven Leemann threw wide off second base in an attempt to pick off Sedin, and center fielder Adrian Kaufmann’s mishandle enabled Sedin to score all the way from second.
Reyes’ ground out to third brought in Byrne from third for a 3-0 lead.
The Flyers answered right away with two runs of their own on Seppi Zwyer’s two-run single to center.
But Sedin regrouped and retired the next seven batters in order before walking Leemann with two outs in the sixth.
Sedin pitched into the ninth inning, but was pulled after walking David Castillo to lead off the inning. Byrne came in and had trouble in disposing of the Flyers’ batters. He walked two batters to load the bases, but thanks to a fielder’s choice and two cleanly fielded grounders by second baseman James Sanders, the Challengers prevailed, giving Byrne his first save with the Challengers.
