10Byrne no-hits Lions, strikes out 15 in 10-0 win
Ryan Byrne put up yet another dominating performance as he tossed a no-hitter against the Zürich Lions in a 10-0 win in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader.He also struck out 15 batters and allowed only a single batter to reach as far as third base. The only baserunners that reached safely came on two errors, a hit-by-pitch and a base-on-balls in the eighth inning.
The game got called after eight innings due to the 10-run mercy rule with Byrne scoring the tenth run himself on Thomas Blank's RBI-single.
Byrne (4-3) struck out at least one batter in every inning, and upped his league-leading strikeout total to 104. He also leads the league with a ratio of 1.69 strikeouts per inning.
With his shutout, he also lowered his ERA to 1.90, fourth-best in the league.
His Game Score of 96 is the second best in Challengers history.
The Challengers struggled early on to put up anything substantial against the Lions' starting pitcher Dreiding. In the third inning, they broke through on Eidrys Reyes' RBI single, followed by Luis Valdez' RBI-single in the fourth.
After that, the Challengers followed up by scoring two runs in every one of the next four innings.
