10Sedin shuts out Cards, win 10-0 in seven
After Ryan Byrne's masterpiece in Game 1 against the Bern Cardinals of Saturday's doubleheader at the Heerenschürli, Robert Sedin was challenged to follow suit. And he did so by delivering a two-hit shutout in a 10-0 win in Game 2.The game was called after 6 ½ innings due to the 10-run mercy rule as the Cardinals found no recipe against Sedin as only two runners reached as far as second base all game.
Sedin was throwing a perfect game through five innings as shortstop Eidrys Reyes misplayed an easy fly ball to lead off the sixth. Steven McIntosh followed with the Cardinals' first hit to break the no-hitter, but aside from one more single in the seventh, that was all the Cardinals could muster off Sedin.
Sedin finished with a shutout on two hits and one walk, while also striking out seven. His Game Score of 79 ranks seventh on the all-time list for best pitched games.
Offensively, Reyes and Tobias Siegrist were the only players with two hits, and Harry Bregy added two RBIs on a suicide squeeze in the fourth inning and an RBI-single in the fifth.
The Challengers had at least one runner in scoring position in all but the third inning when they went down 1-2-3.
