11Challengers rout Devils 11-1
Four Challengers pitchers combined on a 3-hitter against the Wil Devils in Game 2's 11-1 win on Saturday.Sanders came back from retirement and reached base twice in three plate appearances.
Patrick Maier started for the Challengers and promptly hit the first batter he faced. He walked the next batter, and two batters later, the Devils had their first lead of the day as Reto Cola cmae around to score on a run-scoring ground out.
The Challengers couldn't muster anything against lefty Roger Isenring thorugh the first three innings.
They got to him in the bottom of the fourth, getting four consecutive singles to score four runs.
Reyes pitched the fourth and fifth innings, giving up only one hit.
James Sanders came out of retirement and pitched two shutout innings in which he gave up only one hit and also struck out four batters, earning him the win - his first since September 11, 2010.
Bryan Shemley pitched the eighth inning which turned out to be the final one as the Challengers scored four more times to end the game on the 10-run mercy rule.
Game notes
Martinez scored his 100th run with the Challengers as he crossed the plate in the eighth inning. ...Zeller's sac fly in the fourth inning netted his 200th RBI in the NLA.
