7Eagles upend Challengers 7-5
The Challengers' goal for the doubleheader against the Luzern Eagles was to get two wins to finish the regular season in fifth place. The Eagles had other plans and came out swinging against starter Chris Palatinus, getting a 6-0 lead in the first inning en route to a 7-5 win.
Palatinus retired his first batter after four runs had already crossed the plate on Alex Cruz Tifa's two-run double, and a two-run homer by Rudi Vargas.
After three more batters, Palatinus was lifted for Tobias Siegrist who put an end to the scoring barrage by the Eagles.
The Challengers faced an uphill battle after that, getting just baby steps against Stefan Haltmeier and his defense. The Challengers' first run in the third inning was erased on a bases-loaded walk to Marc Hurschler in the bottom of the fifth.
Fabio Aimi's two-run double with two outs in the sixth cut the Eagles' lead to 7-3, and Siegrist's RBI-single sored another run for the Challengers in the seventh.
Siegrist kept the Eagles scoreless over the last three innings, but his offense let him down as they managed just one more run in the ninth inning on Thomas Blank's RBI-single.
Siegrist and Palatinus popped out to left to end the game, handing the Eagles a 7-5 win.
