Kahn, Brito silence Challengers' bats in 9-2 victory

Gary Kahn, the Frogs' pitching ace, tried to pitch through an ankle injury, and lasted only 1 2-3 innings, but reliever Carlos Brito was equally effective through the final 5 1-3 innings, salvaging a split of Sunday's doubleheader with a 9-2 win.

Alessandro Traina went 3-for-4 for the Frogs with two doubles and two runs scored, and Alberto Santos added two hits and scored a game-high three runs.

Challengers starter Carl Conway didn't survive the first inning as he managed to retire only one of the seven batters he faced. Three defensive errors in that inning didn't help him, either, and Thomas Burger was summoned to relieve him.

Burger managed to finish the first inning but not before allowing the fifth Frogs run on a wild pitch.

After giving up two doubles and two walks in the second inning, his day was over, as well. Fabio Aimi was called upon to keep the damage in check.

By that time, the Challengers already trailed 6-1, but Aimi gave the Challengers' offense a chance to come back with a solid pitching performance.

But a two-run single by Stefan Wick in the fourth inning and a sac fly in the sixth inning by Brito sealed the Challengers' fate.

Jesus Martinez was the only Challenger with more than one hit as he went 2-for-3 with one run scored.

Game notes
Chris Palatinus hit his 20th career double against the Sissach Frogs, the most against any team in the NLA.
