Challengers get revenge with 12-1 drowning of Indians

Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Lausanne Indians was a completely different affair than the first contest.

James Sanders pitched five shutout innings for his second win of the season, and the Challengers' bats roughed up the Indians' pitchers with 13 hits for a 12-1 victory.

With that win, the Challengers broke their 7-game losing streak against the Indians.

Indians starter Jon Walls gave up five runs on seven hits in just three innings, while reliever Jay Casimiro allowed seven more in the remaining four frames.

On the other hand, Sanders allowed only one baserunner as far as third base, and faced just 20 batters in five innings.

Reliever Patrick Maier gave his NLA-debut with two solid innings, allowing two singles that led to the Indians' lone run. He also struck out two and walked none.

Siegrist broke his 0-for-10 slump with a 3-for-3 performance.

Brian Hipps and Tobias Siegrist carried the Challengers' offense with a combined 6-for-6 performance, including four RBI's, five runs scored, a double and Siegrist's first triple of the season.

Sanders has yet to allow a run in 12 innings pitched this season. ...The Indians turned four doube plays, the most against any Challengers team in the franchise's history. ...Jesus Martinez had his first hitless game of the season as he went 0-for-3. ...Farid Bekkali left the game in the first inning as he aggrevated his hamstring rounding first base after his single, and is listed as day-to-day. ...Coach Hipps used five subsitutes, giving rookies Roger Burger and Maier a chance to shine on the big stage. Burger drew a bases-on-balls and hit into a fielder's choice, and Maier delievered two solid innings on the mound.
