Challengers rally in final inning for 5-4 victory

Game 2 saw a hard-fought battle between two solid pitchers and offenses, with the Challengers ending up as winners on Jesus Martinez' sun-aided walkoff single to center field.

With two runners on, and the score already tied at four apiece, Martinez lifted a deep fly ball to center field. Center fielder Harry Wischnewski positioned himself under the ball, but lost it at the final moment, enabling Tobias Siegrist to score from second base.

The Challengers put together five consecutive hits to lead off the seventh and final inning against reliever Roger Savoldelli. Four singles and a double by Carlos Peña put the lid on the Challengers' come-from-behind victory, winning them the season series 3-1.

Siegrist again was summoned to start the game on the mound, and he threw 5 1-3 strong innings, giving up three earned runs on five hits and one base-on-balls.

Brian Hipps took over and handcuffed the Stangs over the final 1 2-3 innings, allowing just one more single to Savoldelli.

The Mustangs were first to get on the leaderboard as Bruno Albrecht hit a sacrifice fly to left that scored Kevin Small.

But the Challengers responded in the bottom half of the inning as Bryan Shemley came through with an RBI-single to tie the game.

Another run crossed the plate an inning later on Peña's RBI-single, one of a total of four hits in the game for him, including two RBI's.

The Mustangs finally got to Siegrist in the sixth inning as Wischnewski, Small and Swartz combined for three singles, leading to two runs and a 3-2 lead.

Hipps took over, and after Chris Hutchinson's gorund out, surrendered an RBI-single to Savoldelli.

Savoldelli was then thrown out trying to extend his hit into a double to end the inning.

Small again was the only Mustang with more than one hit, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored against Siegrist and Hipps.
