13Flyers trash Challengers 13-1
The Challengers found no recipe against Stefan Koller and went down quietly in Game 1's 13-1 rout against the Therwil Flyers.Koller allowed Carlos Peña's double in the fourth inning as the only hit in five innings, while walking another three and striking out seven Challengers.
On the offensive side, John Alexander went 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBI's in a 12-hit attack by the Flyers.
The Flyers emptied their bench by using 16 players, with almost all their starters gone after five innings.
That just adds to the inexplicable failure of the Challengers' offense.
But not even the pitching was there as Thomas Landis started and lasted only two innings, giving up eight runs on five hits and four walks, while striking out none.
Tobias Siegrist and Chris Palatinus were summoned to pitch the final four innings, allowing five more runs to the Flyers.
The Challengers' lone run came on Siegrist's sac fly that scored Patrick Zöllig from third base.
The Challengers mixed up their line-up because of the fact that they were eliminated from the Playoffs. Thomas Burger didn't pitch at all and caught the first four innings, and Siegrist started in center field for the first time in his NLA-career.
Game notes
The last time Landis didn't manage to record a strikeout as a starter was against the Bern Cardinals on April 21, 2007. ...Carlos Brito was the 200th batter Landis has hit in his NLA-career.
