Ureña shuts door on Eagles in dramatic 5-4 victory

Geovanni Ureña proved to be a valuable addition to the Challengers' bullpen in the second game against the Reussbühl Eagles.

Landis blew a save but recorded his first win of the season.

Ureña took the mound in the seventh inning, with a one-run-lead, runners on first and second and no outs.

He walked the first batter he faced to load the bases, but then quickly got Enz on strikes.

Stalder, the next batter hit a weak grounder to third, and Thomas Blank fielded the ball well enough to get the important out at the plate.

Then, things became really tight.

Pinch-hitter Mark Feldmann claimed he was hit by the first pitch in the ellbow, but plate umpire Ralph Valentin held him in the batter's box.

Urenã fell behind in the count, held his nerve and struck Fehlmann out to end the game.

The Challengers had come up with an early lead behind solid starter Patrick Zöllig in the first two innings, but the Eagles came up strong in the fifth inning.

Jerome Müller drew a walk and the following deep fly ball by Steiner almost cleared the center field fence.

But Anubis Benitez caught the ball leaning over the fence and eventually falling over, rewarding the runner third base.

Müller scored his team's second run off Zöllig on a fielder's choice groundout.

After Vargas hit a double, Thomas Landis relieved Zöllig.

Yet, a walk, a pair of wild pitches an a single allowed the Eagles to tie the game.

Finally, in the top of the seventh, the Challengers managed to score the decisive run with singles by Harry Bregy, Chris Palatinus and Tobias Siegrist.
