11Eagles take two from Challengers, winning 18-11 in Game 2
With an 18-11 upset in Game 2, the Reussbuhl Eagles proved that Game 1’s 11-7 win was no fluke.Cox was just only one of 15 Challengers left stranded.
The Challengers scored only 11 times although receiving 15 walks and collecting 12 hits. They left the bases loaded in all of the final three innings, and weren’t able to cash in on reliever Tim Koblenz’s poor performance on the hill.
Challenger starter Patrick Zöllig didn’t fare any better, giving free passes to five of the 15 batters he faced.
He was lifted already in the second inning after giving up nine runs on five hits and five walks.
Reliever Bryan Shemley allowed both inherited runners to score to give the Eagles an 11-5 lead.
The Challengers managed to close the gap to 11-10 after three innings, but the Eagles continued to feast on Challengers pitching by scoring three times in each of the fourth and fifth innings.
Although relieved Koblenz surrendered five hits and seven walks in just 3 1-3 innings, he was credited with the win.
It was the Challengers’ fourth consecutive loss, dropping them to 2-4 on the season.
