1Challengers rout Frogs 12-1 in Game 2
Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Sissach Frogs was a one-sided affair as the Challengers rolled to an unimpressive 12-1 win.Thomas Landis collected the first win of the season and his 75th of his career by tossing five strong innings. |
Landis (1-0) went five innings for his first win of the season by giving up only a single earned run on five hits and one base-on-balls. Bregy closed it out by throwing two shutout innings, allowing only a single to Claudio Heim.
The Frogs managed to put one run on the board in the first inning as Landis struggled with his control, but he quickly found his rhythm and was backed up by a fine defense that played an errorless game for the first time since August 31, 2002.
Landis faced only two batters over the minimum over the last four innings.
Unexpected offensive contributions came from light-hitting shortstop Patrick Zöllig who, for the first time in his career, hit two doubles and went 3-for-3 plus a walk in four trips to the plate. He also collected a career-high four RBI's.
Tobias Siegrist, who went 4-for-5 in Game 1, added two more hits in four at-bats to raise his batting average to .467.
