Challengers show no weakness, win 14-3

The Challengers remained focused and continued where they left off in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader.

	Thomas Landis earned his second win of the season by working six innings.

The Reussbühl Eagles again were no match for the three-time defending Champions as they cruised to a comfortable 14-3 win in Game 2.

Thomas Landis pitched six effective innings, giving up only three runs - one of them unearned - on five hits and two walks. He also struck out seven.

After just three innings, the Challengers were already up 11-1 thanks to a three-run homer by catcher Tobias Siegrist, two-run singles by Manny Marchant and Chris Palatinus, RBI-singles by Siegrist and Patrick Zöllig, a run-scoring ground out by Harry Bregy, and a bad throw by center fielder Dario D'Angelo on Palatinus' single.

Landis gave up the first run in the bottom of the third inning after a controversial call by base umpire Bruno Hubler who ruled baserunner Mano Steiner safe after an apparent tag by shortstop Zöllig. Steiner went on to score on D'Angelo's RBI-single two batters later.

	Tobias Siegrist hit his first homer of the season, a three-run shot in the second inning.

The Eagles added two more runs in the next inning on René Plüss' line drive homer off Landis to cut the Challengers' lead to 11-3.

But the Challengers got their final three runs on Zöllig's sac bunt that scored Thor Thoresen from third, and Anubis Benitez' two-run homer, his second four-bagger of the day.

Benitez scored a game-high three runs against his former team.

Zöllig relieved and pitched the final inning, giving up a single and a base-on-balls. But none of the runners managed to cross the plate.

	Eagle starter Marcel Enz was roughed up for 10 earned runs in his four innings of work.

Eagle starter Marcel Enz lasted only four innings before being lifted for reliever Alson Brooks.

Brooks was greeted by Palatinus in the top of the fifth with a double, and finished giving up three earned runs in three innings of work.

Game notes
After committing four errors in Game 1 of the doubleheader, Landis' bad throw to second base was the only misplay by the Challenger defense in Game 2. ...Jose Vazquez appeared for the first time in the Challengers' lineup since August 14, 1999 against the Bern Cardinals. He hit two sharp line drives that were caught in center field.
