3Flyers win rain-shortened game 9-3
The Therwil Flyers again scored early and won 9-3 in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader.Tobias Siegrist went 1-for-2 and extended his hitting streak to seven games. |
The Flyers burned starter Jose Valdez in the first two innings by scoring seven runs on nine hits, including two-run homers by Daniel Eichenberger and Reto Siegel. Karim Traore hit an RBI-double, and Roy Allenspach added an RBI-single in the second inning.
The Challengers managed to score only two runs off starter Stefan Koller in the bottom of the first inning on Tobias Siegrist's RBI-single and a fielding error by first baseman Eichenberger.
Valdez (0-1) was done after just two innings and was relieved by Patrick Zöllig.
He pitched a scoreless third inning, but was yanked after starting the fourth inning by walking Seppi Zwyer and Eichenberger.
Manny Marchant came in to relieve, but gave up both inherited runs on a balk and Anthony Bennett's run-scoring ground out.
He managed to strike out Allenspach for the second out, but quickly loaded the bases by walking the next three batters.
Anubis Benitez was called on to get the final out and close the top half of the fourth inning.
Jose Vazquez then led off the bottom half of the inning by hitting his first homer of the season.
The game was then called because the basepaths were just mud and almost unplayable.

Tobias Siegrist extended his hitting streak to seven games, in which he is batting .590. ...With his double in the first inning, Chris Palatinus passed Saentis Zeller for 3rd place with 186 hits on the Challengers' all-time career hit-list.
