Thomas Landis pitched the first complete game for the Challengers, allowing six earned runs on eight hits and eight bases-on- balls. |
The Challengers again took an early lead by getting seven runs on the board in the first two innings. They held on for a 7-1 lead through the first three innings before the Eagles came back.
They managed to get four runs off Landis (4-3) by starting a rally with two bases-on-balls and then hitting three consecutive singles with two outs.
The Challengers responded quickly by scoring three runs of their own to extend their lead to 10-5. Landis hit an RBI-double and rookie Patrick Bossahrd followed with a double of his own, scoring two more runs.
The Eagles' last threat came in the top of the sixth when Jose Valdez lined a shot over the left center field-wall for a two-run homer and cutting the Challengers' lead to 7-11.
The Challengers' defense held up this time as it only committed three unimportant errors that led to just one run by the Eagles. The three errors by the Eagles were far more crucial as all three of them led to opposing runs.
The Challengers have now finished the first half of their season and can look at a respectable 7-5 record. They hold third place and chances are looking good for their first playoff berth in three years.
