The Softball-Team moved into fourth place with two wins against the Hünenberg Unicorns on Sunday, August 23.
The Challengers delivered ten hits and scored 17 runs in the first two innings en route to a 22-7 win in Game 1, as Simone Zurschmitten opened the score with a 2-run triple and Simona Cellar added a base-clearing triple in the first inning to make it 7-0. And the C’s used five hits and five walks for ten runs in the second frame, before Alexia Zingg belted a 2-run triple in the third inning for a 19-1 lead. Cellar and Zingg drove in four runs each and Zurschmitten and Brigit Zuber had three RBI’s, while Andrea Wirth and Leandra Simitovic scored three runs apiece.
Leandra Simitovic pitched 3 1-3 strong innings and allowed one run and four hits with no walks and two strikeouts for the win and relief pitcher Simone Zurschmitten allowed six runs on four hits with one strikeout in 2-3 innings in her pitching debut.
And the Challengers cruised to a 17-0 victory in Game 2, as they broke it open with eleven runs in the first frame to put things out of reach for the Unicorns. Leandra Simitovic drove in Simona Cellar to open the score and Vanessa Zulliger followed with a RBI-single and Andrea Wirth drove in Ziegylou Wehrli before Simone Zurschmitten capped the inning with a 2-run double. Brigit Zuber had a game-high three hits, while Flavia Von Meiss, Simitovic, Zurschmitten and Zuber drove in two runs apiece and Celine Welti and Wirth scored twice. Karen Heimgartner tossed a two-hitter with seven strikeouts for her fourth win of the season.
The Challengers will face the Reussbühl Eagles in a battle for the last playoff spot on Saturday, August 29 at Reussbühl.
