The Softball-Team faced the Luzern Eagles on Saturday, July 11 at the Klopstockwiese. Despite playing two fine games the Challengers lost twice again. It was a strange start into the game day. A gardening truck removed the remains of a big tree, that fell in the days before the game and had to drive over the field for that. For sure the most extraordinary delay in the history of the Challengers.
The Eagles led 3-2 after the first inning. Sabina Sokolowski hit a 2-run single to plate both Challengers’ runs. And the C’s kept pace. Danielle Bonnet cut the deficit to 4-5 with a 2-run double in the bottom of the fifth. And without committing two baserunning errors the C’s could have taken the lead. So the Eagles stepped it up a notch, delivering a total of 19 hits to eventually win 10-4 Sieg.
Game 2 was a pitcher’s duel between Jennifer Casement and Danielle Bonnet. Both struck out 11 batters and allowed only two and five hits respectively. Again the Eagles converted their chances, while the Challengers are still looking for some luck. Three of the five Eagles’ hits hit the line. In the end the Eagles celebrated a 5-0 victory.
