C’s swept by Flyers

The Challengers lost twice to the first-placed Therwil Flyers on Saturday, August 13 at the Heerenschürli ballpark and dropped into fifth place with a modest 9-13 record. The Flyers converted almost every scoring chance into a run, as they posted a 12-1 victory over the C’s in Game 1, though the C’s were bettered by only 8-5 hits. Jesus Martinez’ RBI-double led to the only Challengers’ run in the bottom of the fifth frame to make it 1-6.

Game 2 was a much closer affair, as the C’s came within two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning after James Sanders delivered a RBI-single and Carl Conway added a RBI-double to make it 2-4. But the Flyers answered with two runs of their own in the sixth and seventh frames to eventually win 8-2. James Sanders led the C’s offense with two hits and one RBI, while starter Partick Maier gave up four runs – two earned – and six hits with one walk while also striking out three in four innings of work.

The C’s will host the second placed Bern Cardinals on Sunday, August 21 at the Heerenschürli ballpark.
