The NLA-Team remains 0.5 games ahead of the Bern Cardinals in the battle for fourth place after a split on Saturday, July 18 at the Heerenschürli ballpark. After a one hour rain delay the Challengers jumped off to a good start by scoring three times in the bottom of the first frame. And they held on, as pitcher Tobias Siegrist and his defense allowed just one run and five hits over the first six innings. But out of the blue the Cardinals delivered seven hits and scored five runs in the seventh to turn things around. The damage was done and the Cardinals posted a 9-4 win. Säntis Zeller, Clayton Carson and Tobias Siegrist led the C’s offense with two hits apiece.
In GAme 2 the Challengers again built a 3-0 lead in the first. But this time they added some more runs in the next innings to eventually walk away with a 10-3 victory. Tobias Siegrist delivered three hits and drove in five, while Robert Sedin, James Sanders and Gabriel Holguin Santos had two hits each. James Sanders threw eight strong innings allowing just three runs – two earned – and ten hits, while striking out three. The Challengers have now a 8-9 record.
