Challengers empfangen Leader

Die Challengers empfangen am Samstag, 13. August den Tabellenführer Therwil Flyers im Baseballstadion Heerenschürli. Nachdem die letzten sechs Partien allesamt wegen Regens abgesagt werden mussten, wäre dies für die Challengers der erste Ernstkampf seit über fünf Wochen. Eine ihrer beiden Saisonniederlagen bezogen die Flyers gegen die Challengers. Spielbeginn ist um 11.00 und 14.00 Uhr.
Das NLB-Team reist am Sonntag, 14. August nach Bern, wo es auf die zweite Equipe der Bern Cardinals trifft. Im ersten Duell gab es für beide Teams je einen Erfolg. Spielbeginn ist um 11.00 und 14.00 Uhr auf der Berner Allmend.

Challengers sweep Bandits

The NLB-Team won both games of their homestand against the Jona Bandits.
In game 1 Adrian Kämpfer celebrated his debut as a starting pitcher with his first win, lasting 5 innings and giving up 3 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks while fanning 4. Yanik Probst recorded 5 strikeouts to close the game, but gave up 3 more runs on 1 hit. Kurt Kovac with a double and Halvar Dil knocked in a pair each, while other rbi’s were provided by Alex Gordon, Kämpfer and Probst for a final score of 10-7.
In Game 2 Fabio Aimi and Kovac led the C’s with a single and a double each, collecting multiple RBIs. Jarrod Baker made a good offensive comeback with 2 singles. As a starting pitcher, he faced some control problems like Probst in the first game and had to surrender 5 runs in the second frame. Kovac took over and sealed the deal holding the Bandits to one more run, while the Challengers’ offense came from behind for an 11-6 win.

Challengers in Luzern im Einsatz

Das NLA-Team reist am Sonntag, 7. August nach Luzern, wo es auf die Luzern Eagles treffen wird. Die Challengers werden versuchen ihren vierten Tabellenrang zu verteidigen und den knappen Vorsprung auf die Verfolger zu vergrössern. Die Spiele beginnen um 11.00 und 14.00 Uhr in Reussbühl Hinterruopigen.
Das NLB-Team empfängt am Samstag, 6. August die Jona Bandits im Baseballstadion Heerenschürli. Die Challengers werden versuchen sich für die 2-4 Niederlage gegen die Bandits im ersten Aufeinandertreffen der Saison zu revanchieren. Spielbeginn ist um 11.00 und 14.00 Uhr.

NLB-Team splits with Barracudas

The NLB-Team split with the Zurich Barracudas on Saturday, June 25 at the Heerenschürli ballpark. The Barracudas took a 9-1 lead in Game 1, but the C’s cut the defict to four runs and loaded the bases again in the seventh inning, but couldn’t cash in, so that the Barracudas held on for a 9-5 win.
The blue and red answered in Game 2, as they posted a 11-4 victory over the Barracudas. The C’s remain in third place with a 5-3 record. They will host the Bern Cardinals on July 10 at the Heerenschürli ballpark.

NLB-Team splits with Devils

The NLB-Team added another victory to its record, as the Chalengers beat the Wil Devils 13-7 in Game 1 of their double-header on Saturday, May 28 at Wil. And the C’s came close to their fifth win of the season, as Orlando Balbuena drove in Alex Gordon to tie the game at 7-7 and send it into extra innings. An RBI-single by Kurt Kovac and a two-run single by Adrian Kämpfer made it 10-7, but the Devils answered with an RBI-single by Gianluca Trüb, before Manuel Keller belted a three-run sayonara homerun for a dramatic 11-10 win for the Devils. The Challengers have now a 4-2 record.

Back and forth, back and forth, NLB-Team lose to Barracudas

The NLB-Team lost for the first time in 2011, as the Zurich Barracudas posted a wild 10-8 victory over the Challengers on Wednesday, May 18. The two teams combined for 14 hits, but also 13 errors and three unsuccessful suicide squeeze plays. The game saw four lead changes till the Challengers tied the game again at 8-8 in the bottom of the eight inning, as Gabe Staub scored on a wild pitch. But the C’s threw it away, as Stefan Spring and Farid Bekkali made it 10-8 on the last two errors from a sloppy Challengers defense.
Yanik Probst, Kurt Kovac and Alex Gordon had two hits apiece, while Fabio Aimi pitched 3.2 innings of relief, giving up one hit and one run with two walks and six strikeouts in his debut in a Challengers uniform.
