NLB-Team swept by Bandits

The NLB-Team lost twice against the last-placed Jona Bandits on Sunday, July 14 at Rapperswil-Jona. The Bandits broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning, as three Challengers pitchers allowed eight runs on three hits, five walks and a hit batter en route to a 12-7 win in Game 1. The C's lost despite walking 14-times and sending four batters more to the plate, but they were batting a dismal 3-for-16 with runners in scoring position. Yusuke Azuma delivered three hits, while Carlos Nepomuceno and Francesco Falcone had two hits apiece, as they collected all seven Challengers' hits.
 
Game 2 was all Bandits, as they built a 6-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, cruising to an easy 12-1 victory. Kurt Kovac and Oliver Bernet had the only hits for the C's, who lost their fourth game in a row, dropping their record to 5-9.

NLB-Team swept by Cardinals

The NLB-Team returned without any earning from the capital city, as the Challengers lost twice to the first ranked Bern Cardinals on Sunday, June 16. Other than six week ago the C's didn't bring last year's NLB champion in danger, as the Cardinals cooled off the Challengers ofense in both games. The Cards posted a 10-0 shutout victory in Game 1, before adding a 12-2 outburst in Game 2. The C's are now in fourth place with a 5-7 record. They will face the Jona Bandits on Sunday, July 14 at Rapperswil-Jona.

NLB-Team stays at .500

Finally, a ball game in sunny conditions! The Challengers and the Zurich Barracudas played the first local derby in NLB in 2013 on Saturday, June 8 at the Heerenschürli. The Barracudas celebrated their first win of the season, as they posted a 10-6 victory over the C's in Game 1. But the Challengers bounced back, as they took Game 2 by posting a 13-3 win to remain at .500. The C's are tied for third place with a 5-5 record. Next up for the C's are the Bern Cardinals on Sunday, June 16 at Bern.

NLB-Team back at .500 after sweep

The NLB-Team won twice against the Sissach Frogs on Mother's day to reach the .500 mark again. It was Sunday's only double header that has not been postponed due to rain. The Challengers posted a 6-3 win in Game 1, before cruising to a 17-1 victory over the Frogs in Game 2. The C's are now tied for third place with the Frogs with a 4-4 record.
 
The Challengers will meet the Hünenberg Unicorns on Saturday, June 1 at Hünenberg Wartstrasse.

NLB-Team battles, but goes down

The NLB-Team lost twice against the Bern Cardinals on Sunday. The Challengers gave everything to be a tough opponent for last year's NLB champions, but in the end the Cardinals walked away with two wins. Game 1 went into extra innings, as the Cards finished with a seven-run frame to put them up for good, as they posted a 12-5 victory.
 
The Challengers tried to bounce back, as they started off with a 4-2 lead after two innings in Game 2. But that was it for the C's, as the Cardinals scored 13 unanswered runs to eventually win 15-4. The C's dropped into fifth place with a 2-4 record.

NLB-Team cooled down by Flyers

 
Unlike most of the other Challengers teams the NLB-Team hasn't been stopped by the weather so far. But the C's were cooled off by the Therwil Flyers on Sunday, April 21, as the Flyers improved to a 5-1 record with two wins. After the Challengers lost Game 1 with a score of 1-5, the Flyers added a 12-6 victory in Game 2.
 
The Challengers are now in third place with a 2-2 record. The C's will take on the second placed Bern Cardinals on Sunday, May 5 at the Heerenschürli ballpark.

NLB-Team takes off with sweep

The NLB-Team had a successful start into the 2013 season, as it swept the Hünenberg Unicorns on Opening Day. The Unicorns were ahead by one run after four frames, as the C's plated three runs in the fifth and sixth innings each and held on for a 7-3 victory in Game 1.
 
Both teams held the level high in Game 2. The lead changed three times and the C's added another win, as they edged the Unicorns 7-6. Thomas Burger tossed three strong innings of relief, while Oliver Bernet broke a 5-5 tie with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning.
 
With the sweep the Challengers are in first place after the first two weekends of play. The C's will face the Therwil Flyers on Sunday, April 21.

Sedin back in Zurich

Robert Sedin is back in Zurich again. Last year's Challengers MVP arrived in Zurich on Friday to play his second season with the C's. The no. 19 was leading the Challengers with 12 doubles, 3 triples, 36 runs scored, a .413 batting average and a .477 on-base percentage in 2012. He also finished the season with a 5-3 record and a 1.61 ERA on the mound working 67 innings with 92 strikeouts.
 
Sedin will again be a key factor in the C's bid to make the playoffs. The 25-year old San Jose native will also be the skipper of the Challengers NLB-Team in 2013. The Challengers will start their season on April 20 with a double header at Therwil against the Therwil Flyers.

The summer practice for the Zurich Challengers Baseball-Teams takes place every WEDNESDAY from 6pm to 10pm and every FRIDAY from 6pm to 8pm at the Heerenschürli ballpark in Zurich Schwamendingen (S-Bahn S3/S9/S12 and tram no. 7 to Bahnhof Stettbach or tram no. 9 to Hirzenbach).
 
Das Sommertraining für die Baseball-Teams der Zürich Challengers findet jeden MITTWOCH von 18:00 bis 22:00 Uhr und jeden FREITAG von 18:00 bis 20:00 Uhr im Baseballstadion Heerenschürli in Zürich Schwamendingen statt (S-Bahn S3/S9/S12 und Tram 7 bis Bahnhof Stettbach oder Tram 9 bis Hirzenbach).

Winter Practice 2013

The winter practice for the Zurich Challengers Baseball Team will take place every Monday from 6.15pm till 8pm and every Wednesday from 6.15pm till 8pm at the Turnhalle Rämibühl at the Rämistrasse 80 in Zurich (tram 5 & 9 to Kantonsschule). The first session after the Christmas break will take place on Monday, January 7.
In addition to that the pitcher/catcher practice takes place every Tuesday from 8pm till 9.40pm.
Das Wintertraining für das Zürich Challengers Baseball Team findet jeden Montag von 18.15 bis 20.00 Uhr und jeden Mittwoch von 18.15-20.00 Uhr in der Turnhalle Rämibühl an der Rämistr. 80 in Zürich statt (Tram 5 & 9 bis Kantonsschule). Das erste Training nach den Weihnachtsferien findet am Dienstag, 7. Januar statt.
Zusätzlich findet das Pitcher/Catcher Training jeden Dienstag von 20.00 bis 21.40 Uhr statt.
