The Ladies lost Game 1 of the 2007 Championship Series against the Therwil Flyers 12-14. Though the C’s outhit their opponents 11-10 and Leandra Simitovic belted her first career homer, it wasn’t enough to overcome eight defensive errors.
The Flyers built an early 6-0 lead, highlighted by Babsi Meierhans’ solo shot in the third inning. In the fourth inning the C’s almost erased the deficit, scoring five times on four hits by Alexia Zingg, Katrin Dresbach, Corinne Wengi and Simitovic. The Flyers rebuilt the gap, as they used three hits and three errors for five runs in the sixth. But singles from Isabella Yaheya, Simone Zurschmitten, Simitovic and Zingg cut the deficit to one run again in the bottom half of the inning. In the seventh the Flyers added three insurance runs, before Simitovic slugged a two-run homer to make it 12-14, but Sophie Zihlmann ended the game, retiring the next two batters she faced.
The C’s need to win Game 2 on Sunday at Therwil to force a decisive third game, which would be played tomorrow as well.
